Crofton is in the "Crofton, Ryhill and Walton" ward of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council.  Until June 2004 it was in the "Crofton and Akworth" ward.

The new ward is served by three councillors. Graham Isherwood sought re-election in 2006, Maureen Cummings in 2007 and Susan Lodge who was elected in 2008

Maureen Anne Cummings Elected for 4 years in 2007 2029 votes (45.9%)

Graham Leslie Isherwood Elected for 4 years in 2006   1594 votes (35.8%)
