Following the resignation of the Carnival secretary, Chris Neale, at the organisation’s AGM (reported in October’s Smoke Signal) and the absence of anyone to take on the carnival in 2010, an EGM was arranged to decide the future of the event.  At the meeting the situation was found to be unchanged and the Carnival Committee was disbanded.

Following the guidelines of the Carnival Committee’s constitution, the groups’ money can be held  in trust in a bank account for up to 5 years. This arrangement has been set in place in case a new group decides to re-start the carnival.

An established new Carnival Committee should contact either Gerry Dickinson or Pat Scholefield who are acting as trustees for the monies remaining in the bank account. The old committee files are available for reference at Crofton library

Thank you to all the members of the community who contributed to the success of the carnival over the last 10 years, especially past committee members.   It’s sad that the carnival will not be continuing but many members of the village will remember that there were other carnivals before this last series and no doubt someone will have the drive and energy to start them again.
