This map shows a village that is begining to look more like the one we know today.
The railways had undergone a major contraction. The large sidings shown under construction in 1907 (that eventualy became Crofton Sidings sports field) have now been removed, along with the lines connecting them to the south.
The Crofton Academy site had expanded significantly, however many of these new buildings were to be destroyed in a fire in 1995.
By the time that this map was published, a new Crofton Infant school had opened on Slack Lane. The Infant school remained in the old building on the High Street.
A college was still marked at the bottom of Cock Lane, along side the new access road to the Ashdene Estate. This would eventually be replaced by Chestnut Grove.
The map shows the construction of the Ashdene Estate well under way. A new stretch of road called Pinfold Drive links two parts of Slack Lane and enabled the later construction of the Springhill Estate.
Both Walton Pit and Nostell Pit were still operating, but their time was running out. Walton Pit closed in 1979 with Nostell Pit following in 1987.
